Glad to see someone keeping the Ol' Maxx alive. I too am a Sam Keith fan. Fanboys of the world unite!
Now for a little critique.
Overall I like the concept. The Maxx seems to be done fairly well, but Julie could use some work on the face (nose looks like she is wearing a clown nose) and her left arm (our right) looks like it is too long. As for the coloring, I think it would have been more effective to be lit from the upper left instead of the upper right for a few reasons. 1. It shows off your characters more where it counts instead of on their backs. 2. Makes them look down on a lit valley instead of a dark one, making you think..."what could they be looking at in a dark valley?". 3. The solid areas of the inking play more toward the light from the upper left.
Last but not least, the background. I like the clouds and the feel of dusk, but the trees seem to be nothing more than an afterthought and were scribbled in. Might take some more time with the trees.
The color really work amazing on Bot's linework here. I really dig the heavy shadowing of the clouds passing with the bursts of light inbetween. I also think the grasslands savannah came off really well. I really dig teh texture you pulled off on his teeth/mask.
Dude, I absolutely love what you did with the picture, I'm glad that I took out the background elements I had scrawled in there because it's breathtaking what you did with the plains and the sky, and those gorgeous clouds. Thank's man! I can't wait for our next colab, we'll have to talk about that, see what you'd like to do the pencils (inks optional) for!
It would've been cool to get Jon involved in this somehow, but I haven't heard a thing from him for weeks and weeks, is he still alive?!?! Anyways, I'm glad that we finally saw an idea to it's end, which is MAJOR PROGRESS FOR US...hahahaha
lol, you name it, I'll draw it. I try inking it too, and if it doesnt look good, you can do em. ^^
Jon is very interested in doing a comic, and I told him that I would help out. He suggested starting, then pass the skectches to me and add my style/ideas to it, then he would ink it, then i would color it. It hasn't gotten a start, so that means there's more than enough room for you to join.
Yeah, I am glad we got through it with such motivation and dedication! Next time I'll put more time into the background. ^^ yeaa completion! lol

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This contest ends on Friday the 18th December 2009. If you want to enter, get your entries in quick! Here are all the entries so far. Also if you want to donate a prize, that would be fantastic too, just note me

maybe i'm wrong..
nope, definitely a big gut.
other than that, coloring/shading is great. The image is slightly unclear as others have said. Other than that, good job.
